~ Superfood Grasshopper Bites ~ Luring my best friend, Laura, back to SoCal today with these raw desserts inspired by @toneitup! I may have already eaten two for breakfast because I needed a good peppermint & cacao boost before I hit yoga!  I used @goraw's sprouted pumpkin & sunflower seeds as the base because they are loaded with nutrients, protein & living enzymes to super-charge digestion. A juice containing oranges, carrots, and orange bell peppers. I added some chia seeds afterwards. I love the pretty color it bacame. Turned out pretty good

As you know, Saturday is my Farmer's market day. With these ingredients, I can make Shashuka, an omelette, poached eggs with veg, a fritatta, tomato soup, salsa, tomato marinara sauce, vegetable juice and on and on. Are you one of those people that just makes or eats the same food everyday or every week?  There's actually nothing wrong with that as long as you sit down and examine your menu. Are you incorporating a large variety of nutritious food or does everything involve the same narrow variety of ingredients? These ingredients are delicious and nutritious but as a daily routine for an extended period of time, they are lacking. How can I improve on them? Hmmmm.... well, cilantro releases metal from the body, but there is nothing here to bind to the metal and pull it from the body. If I add parsley, cooked spinach or kale (dark greens), that will provide additional nutrients, prebiotics AND help my body to release metal. I could add lemon to activate the release of iron in the added greens. Quinoa, garbanzo beans or broccoli for protein. If I choose Broccoli rabe Or broccoli sprouts, that will boost and assist my immune system. Olives, kimchi, or pickled veg will deliver probiotics. Adding nuts and seeds for increases fiber, protein and omega 3s, or choose wild fish and skin-on root vegetables for protein and fiber. Adding spice increases antioxidants and so on, and so on. Every additional nutrient improves the nutritional delivery. Many nutrients work together to maximize absorption and digestion. Explore your "set menus". What can you change up to boost your nutrition and enjoyment?
